We are off to a great start to 2014! Some things happening in our room...
Students are hard at work on their research for their mission projects! We are using books, information packets, computers in the lab, and iPads to help us complete our research. As you know, most of the work will be done at school for this project. Projects will be completed mid-March.
All students now have their Accelerated Reader reading range. Students need to choose books in this level. Many of the books in the Scholastic book orders have the AR levels listed. If you would like to look up an AR level by title or author, use the website arbookfind.com
If you have a book that you are wondering about, another great way to find AR levels is by using the Book Scanner app. I have an iPhone so I am not sure if it is available for Androids. It was $1.99, and is very easy to use. It scans the bar code on the back of the book to find the AR level and the number of points. Great for use at the library, book stores, and books that you already have at home!
Students have AR goals set for them according to their reading ability. Students who reach their goal by the beginning of March will get to have a pizza lunch with me! I really want the students reading and taking the AR quizzes! Please be sure that your child is reading 30 min. every night!
In math, we are working with fractions- finding equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, adding and subtracting fractions. Soon we will be working with mixed numbers and improper fractions. Students who do not know their math facts are REALLY struggling. Your child should be practicing math facts daily at home. They can use flashcards, games, apps... whatever they are most excited to use. All 4th graders should have addition, subtraction, multiplication (up to 12), and division facts memorized!
Thanks for all of your support at home!
